(IO1) Analysis of the Context and Professional Practice

This output reports on a review of relevant literature undertaken in order to provide an analysis of the context and professional practice.

The results of this review contribute to the identification of competences used in the construction of the European Framework of Competences.

(IO1) European Framework of Competences in Teaching STEAM Education for Gifted Students

This European Framework of Competences is the first formal output of the STEAM Stars project. It will provide a reference of competences in teaching STEAM education to gifted students, using a common language to describe these competences that can be understood across Europe, following European standards and frameworks of reference such as the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

This document provides an outline of the STEAM Stars project and its partner organisations, followed by details of the key competences which form the Framework.

This output forms the basis for the future actions in the STEAM Stars project, and provides the structure within which the Open Campus and mobile assessment app will be created.


(IO2) STEAM Stars Open CAMPUS

The STEAM Stars Open CAMPUS will contain innovative Open Educational Resources, including training contents, practical activities and assessment methods to be used by of School teachers, trainers and non formal and informal educators working with gifted students.

A multilingual ICT based training hub and platform which includes different elements of innovation, such as:

  • an Online Instructional Guide on Digital Competencies for Virtual Learning, designed to improve the digital skills of School teachers, trainers and non-formal and informal educators and to facilitate the interaction with Virtual learning environments;
  • a set of structured Training Modules; and
  • Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) addressed to School teachers, trainers and non-formal and informal educators, organized in areas, levels and units.

(IO2) Online Instructional Guide on Digital Competencies for Virtual Learning

This guide aims to improve the digital skills and facilitate the interaction with virtual learning environments of school teachers, trainers and non-formal and informal educators, by providing a simple and easy-to-apply guide for anyone who has no prior knowledge on how to create and deliver an eLearning course.

(IO2) Training Modules

The Training Modules are part of the STEAM Stars Open Campus, which includes three elements:

  1. Online Instructional Guide on Digital Competences for Virtual Learning: Designed to improve the digital skills and facilitate the interaction with virtual learning environments of schoolteachers, trainers, and non-formal and informal educators.
  2. Training Modules: A structured set of innovative training content and practical activities for teaching STEAM education to gifted students, developed on the basis of the European Framework of Competences (Output 1 of the project). This has been designed as a pedagogical tool providing a selection of materials with which schoolteachers, trainers
    and non-formal and informal educators can work to develop and implement the European Framework of Competences.
  3. MOOC courses on Teaching STEAM Education to Gifted Students: Massive Open Online Courses developed on the basis of the European Framework of Competences and the Training Modules.

(IO3) STEAM Stars Mobile Assessment App

A practical and innovative ICT-based tool designed to evaluate competences on STEAM education for gifted students included in the European Framework of Competences.

The App will be an innovative assessment tool to be used in Schools and in nonformal and informal programmes to evaluate the acquisition of teaching STEAM education for gifted students by School teachers, trainers and non-formal and informal educators in real educational activities. It will be designed and applied following the instructions and guidance described in Open CAMPUS (IO2) and will be tested during the pilot phase with students.


(IO4) Guidelines to promote transparency and recognition of teaching STEAM education for gifted students

These guidelines introduce the STEAM Stars outcomes produced during the project and are addressed to policy makers, educational administrations and institutions, schools, educational experts, and non-formal and informal learning providers who want to support teachers to implement the European Framework of Competences in teaching STEAM education for gifted students.

(IO4) European Policies Analysis Report

This document provides an overview of the national and European policies in teaching STEAM education for gifted students. To do so, we have reviewed the different national policies devoted to gifted education established in the five partner countries.

In addition, we will consider the main trends of public education policies within Europe in favour of STEM/STEAM, which can lead to outlined potential solutions to the STEM/STEAM challenges. The output of this policy report will guide the development of the report Guidelines to Promote Transparency and Recognition of Teaching STEAM Education for Gifted Students.

(IO4) Recognition of Prior Learning and Non-formal and Informal Learning

This document provides an overview of the approaches to the validation of non-formal and informal learning within and between partner countries of the STEAM Stars project.

This report aims to identify similarities and differences between those countries and make recommendations for the recognition and incorporation of non-formal and informal learning in the STEAM Stars Open Campus.

(IO4) Evaluation report of the PILOT phase

The main objective of the pilot phase of the STEAM Stars project was to test and evaluate the project outputs in a real context with the target users. During the piloting phase, school teachers, trainers and non-formal and informal educators from Netherland, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom carried out and assessed the STEAM Stars Open Campus and the STEAM Stars Assessment App.


This evaluation report collects the feedback acquired via an online questionnaire from 15 school teachers, trainers and non-formal and informal educators from those countries taking part in the pilot phase, from September to November 2022.


The analysis of the results of the pilot phase have supported the development of the final version of the STEAM Stars materials as well as recommendations for further dissemination and exploitation activities.
Results are presented by question, including encouraging comments and development ideas provided in answer to the open questions.
